Beach paintings

There is something about the beach that most of us love. Maybe its the sea air or the feeling of escape because of the openness of it all, maybe its the panoramic views.

For me the beach is all of the above and also because there is something new everyday to look at, makes it a unique place.

Beach paintings - ideas

The ideas for my beach paintings come from I suppose to be honest, my experience of visiting the beach when I was a kid. My parents would take us all (I have 2 sisters and a brother) down there during the summer where we would have picnics and games... including cricket... my Dad loved his cricket. It's these fond memories I have, that I now try to capture. I like to think that my beach paintings are happy, fun and yet peaceful... the time I had all those years ago down on the beach.

There's is a lot more to be seen down the beach... you just have to look.

Beach Paintings - style

My style when painting original beach scenes is generally quite detailed and although I use photographs as reference material, each painted beach scene is of knowhere in particular, they are just 'made up'.

I have a rough Idea when starting a new painting as to what I want it be, but this can change during the course of the work and sometimes may end up completely different to my original idea.

Each painting is totally unique and can take days or weeks to complete depending on the size of the painting, but generally the smaller paintings (some 3 1/2 inches x 2 1/2 inches) take about 6-7 hours to complete.
